The 'Touring Cars' consisted of Groups Nb (Production Touring Cars manufactured before the end of 1964) and Group Nc (Production Touring Cars of a type that were raced in Australia before 1972). Suffice to say with Ford Falcons (GT & GTHO), Ford Mustangs, Torana XU-1's and even a Porsche 911, the racing was fantastic especially at the front of the field.
PIT IMAGES: Grunt, of course I needed that V8 fix, I found it by the proverbial spadeful in the #1: Des Wall pit garage and then came across a very tasty Lotus Cortina... 1967: #1: FORD GTA MUSTANG Winner of the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1966, 1967 and 1968, this car in the capable hands of Ian 'Pete' Geoghegan was almost unbeatable over the years 1967 to 1971 inclusive, accruing 75 wins and 20 second places from 118 starts! The car was originally imported to Australia in April 1967 as a Ford GTA Mustang 'Automatic', roll bars, manual gearboxes and a host of alterations created the winning touring car configuration. The car is now owned and raced by Des Wall.
1964: #100: FORD LOTUS CORTINA Mk1.
TOURING CAR RACING: Magic V8's and highly tuned sixes battled out some of the most competitive racing of the weekend, great stuff. The #1: Geoghegan Ford Mustang, truly an absolute beast!
