THE GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED 2011, OVERVIEW:
GOODWOOD HOUSE AND THE TUBULAR E-TYPE: An unmistakeable sculpture, just take one giant E-Type, stand it on it's nose in front of Goodwood House and there you have arguably the most photographed item at Goodwood in 2011. Constructed using half a kilometre of steel tube, the sculpture by Gerry Judah stands twenty eight (28) metres tall and weighs over 175 tonnes!
THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE INDIANAPOLIS 500: The Centenary of the Indianapolis 500 was celebrated in style at Goodwood, the Hill Climb start line had bricks from the Indianapolis Speedway embedded across the tarmac, Gasoline Alley was filled with a wide variety of Indy Cars many of which participated in the Hill Climb event.
THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE JAGUAR E-TYPE: The Jaguar E-Type 50th Anniversary celebrations included plenty of E-Type content in the Jaguar Pavilion and the massive Tubular E-Type in front of Goodwood House. The Malcolm Sayer designed 150mph performance and inherent race winning heritage endowed the E-Type Jaguar with beauty, speed and credibility. Unveiled to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in 1961, the car was an overnight sensation. The E-Type has an ageless shape which Enzo Ferrari described as the most beautiful car ever made.
THE 60th ANNIVERSARY OF PORSCHE IN THE GREAT BRITAIN:
THE 125th ANNIVERSARY OF MERCEDES BENZ:
THE MOVING MOTOR SHOW: The Moving Motor Show was held on the first day of the four day event. The Show offered potential buyers the opportunity to sample selected vehicles on the Goodwood Hill Climb. The vehicles remained on static display throughout the remainder of the weekend.
