I have always been attracted to Motorcycles in deference to
Cars, one particular reason and it may seem quite odd, In my early teens I felt
distinctly uncomfortable sitting off centre in a motor car. I have always loved
the central, balanced position a rider has, so I would love to have a drive of a
McClaren Supercar some day with it's somewhat unique front 'driver only' seating
arrangement, I can dream!!!
I have always been a great admirer of all things Mercedes Benz and Porsche
and I visited their respective Museums in Stuttgart in 2009!
Below I am collating various Car interests, Museums and Events and hope the photographic records are of
interest, crikey I have even 'unearthed' my pics of the London to Sydney
Marathon, circa 1977!!........

MERCEDES
BENZ:
Mercedes have done it all really, the
first 'engine powered' motorcycle and the latest creation I have seen, the
SLR McCLAREN 'STIRLING MOSS'' a massively fast motor car full of the latest
technologies, except a windscreen!
I visited the Mercedes Benz Museum in
2009 and learnt a great deal about the evolution of the Mercedes Benz
product and their future plans, the 'clickable' image starts the 'deejay51'

PORSCHE:
From Ferdinand's early days at Mercedes,
the 'Peoples Car', huge successes at Le Mans to the latest Four Seat, Four
Door Porsche Panamera, its all happening at Porsche.
The Porsche Museum was opened in 2009 and
I was lucky enough to visit the museum within months of the official
opening. Everything I viewed and read only reinforced my extreme interest in
all things Porsche and their constant refinement of that original Ferdinand
Porsche design.

HONDA NSX:
I have a huge admiration for the Honda
product, mainly the motorcycle range and the golden years of Honda's Racing
Motorcycles.
One Honda Car continues to retain my
interest and that car is the Honda NSX, the shape, the finish, the
uncomplicated day to day functionality of the vehicle. Quite an achievement
given it was basically Honda's 'first' attempt at a true supercar.

SPEED
ON TWEED - Sept'. 2008:
Speed on Tweed had been run very successfully
for many years, of course I never bothered to attend until I heard the 2008
event was to be the last, no way.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience stretching
over some three days with so many beautiful cars, legends of Australian and New
Zealand Motor Sport in attendance, just great!

BROOKLANDS
- June 2007:
I hadn't even planned a trip to Brooklands in
2007, I had heard of the name as related to Motor Racing and Aviation, I had a
spare day whilst near Heathrow and on arrival I was stunned by the 'BANKED
TRACK' and the Exhibits, albeit mostly aged in place!
Mind you the 'aged in place' is totally surrounded by
somewhat futuristic buildings, Mercedes Benz UK etc. Sadly all the recent developments have
required the 'Brooklands Oval Track' to be demolished in selected areas, a great
shame.

LONDON to SYDNEY MARATHON - 1977:
I recall having followed the event
through the limited methods of media coverage of the time, so when the
Marathon 'stopped' at Garden City Shopping Centre in Brisbane, woohoo, I was
there.
Some very very weary drivers and
mechanics descended on Garden City at some ungodly hour, my favourite entry,
the Porsche 911.

THE
NATIONAL 'MOTOR RACE MUSEUM':
Location, Location, Location... at the bottom of Conrod
Straight in Bathurst, New South Wales. The Museum has very high quality
exhibits of Motorcycles and Cars. There is a huge display of mainly Bathurst
1000 Race Cars including some marvellous reminders of the vehicles raced by
Peter Brock. The 'clickable' image links to
my records of a visit to the Musuem in 2009... |
